May Monthly Focus: Getting Back on Track

I'm linking up with Maegen over at The Modern Tulip for this month's Monthly Focus.

Life's been rough this past week. Real rough. And in the midst of everything, I was struck down with a stomach bug early Sunday morning. Third one this year. Could Robert be bringing these nasty bugs home from daycare? Most likely. Could I take better care of myself to help ward off catching every little thing he may bring home? Definitely.

On top of being more susceptible to illness, I'm sick of feeling tired and sluggish all of the time. I need more energy to keep up with my life. I've gotten so far off track in my healthy habits that it's sad. And I've had enough. Which has lead me to my May monthly focus: Getting Back on Track.

So here's my plan:

{one} Get moving! I love working out. It's fun for me, especially if I'm in a group setting...this girl loves a little friendly competition! Working out not only gives me energy, but I sleep better when I'm working out too. Andrew and I joined a local gym that offered child care at the beginning of the year and we started going three times a week. Then we got hit with stomach flu #1 on Valentine's Day weekend. Real romantic, huh? After a week off from the gym to recover, we got out of the habit of going and so not going became the habit. We've been to the gym once since then. Once! I feel like I come up with every little excuse not to go: "I didn't get enough sleep last night, so let me sleep tonight and I'll feel well enough to go tomorrow" or "By the time I get home from work, get ready, go to the gym, workout for an hour, get home, eat, shower, give Robert a bath, feed him and put him to sleep it'll be so late and I won't get enough sleep." Instead of thinking all of these negative thoughts, here's what I'll be telling myself now "Get over it, sister! You're a mom now, you're going to be sleep deprived indefinitely! Get your butt to the gym and you'll have enough energy to do all of the things you need to do!!!"
{two} Stop eating so much junk. I will still indulge, but that's all it needs to be ~ a treat, not an every day habit. I don't need coffee every morning. I don't need a soda every afternoon. And I don't need chocolate every day. I feel better and have more energy when I'm eating healthy. I don't like the way I feel when I'm eating the foods that I love. Ironic, huh? My eating habits lately have been downright embarrassing and there's no way that I could ever out-workout my diet. I've been going for convenient, easy to grab meals. But what I've forgot is that convenience doesn't have to mean junk. So today I went online to order an Advocare 24 Day Challenge and to restock my Quest Protein Bar stash. I also signed up for a discount card through my employer for My Fit Foods, which are prepackaged healthy meals that are delivered to my office twice a week. Convenient and healthy? I'm in! I can't wait to get my discount card and get started!

{three} Drink more...water, that is ;) I love all sorts of beverages, alcoholic and non. Just check my Instagram (@awifewelllived) and you'll know what I mean! Coffee, red wine, margaritas, the list goes on and on. There needs to be more water in the mix. I feel like it's easy to drink my daily water goal on days that I work because I feel like I'm on more of a schedule on those days than I am on days that I'm home with Robert. I'm going to make it a point to make sure that I'm drinking at least half my body weight in ounces of water a day.

So there's my May Monthly Focus. I'm going to get back on track and take care of my body. I have too much going on to constantly be sick and too tired to live my life! I want my energy back!

I'm also linking up with Becky over at Olives 'n' Wine for Treat Yourself Tuesday, because what better way to treat myself than taking care of my body?!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. You got this girl, as soon as you get started again you'll be right back on track :) The food service sounds great, there is another one in Tulsa I've told Dustin I want to try out!

  3. These are all great (and attainable) goals! I need to do the same thing. I eat like crap and am pretty lazy all winter long so once spring comes around, I need to kick things back into gear!
